Year 2
Welcome to Year 2!
We hope that you all had a lovely summer and that all the children are looking forward to returning to school. In Year 2, every child, every day will be given every chance to learn; we do everything we can to ensure all children can achieve. We want to make this year a fun and exciting one for your children, their last year in KS1. It is important that as a team we work together to develop your child’s emotional health and well-being. We would like all children to come into school, happy and content and if there are any issues we are happy to discuss these with you.
Year 2’s themes are: Fire Fire (Autumn term), Planes, Trains and Automobiles (Spring term) and Dungeons and Dragons (Summer term). We have lots of fun, exciting and interesting activities planned throughout the year. We are hoping to take the children to visit a castle and to the transport museum to help support the children’s understanding for of their themes. We know that the children love the outdoors, so some of their learning will be in forest school. The children will also be learning about healthy eating and they will all have the opportunity to make and eat some healthy food.
We would like to keep you updated on different events that will be happening throughout the year so we will communicate via the newsletter, Learning with Parents and Studybugs. All children to ready daily at home with an adult (or older sibling), the children will all bring home a reading book, the reading can be logged on our new reading platform Learning with Parents. Every child has a TT Rockstars log-in and Numbots log-in, we would love the children to practise their times tables regularly to ensure fluency and accuracy.
We understand that moving up to Key Stage 2 is a big step for many children so throughout the year we will be helping develop their independence and resilience to ensure that there is a smooth transition to Year 3.
