In Year 1 we will be learning about Expeditions and Explorations (Autumn), Blowing Hot and Cold (Spring) and Coventry, City of Culture (Summer). We will be learning about and comparing different countries, climates and learning about the people and animals that live in these countries. We have an explorer visiting us in Autumn term, a trip to Twycross Zoo planned for Spring and a trip Meriden and Coventry city centre planned for the Summer term. Each class will spend 4 weeks in Forest School learning how to create shelters, bug hunting, using tools and cooking over a camp fire.
Communication is key - it is important that we work as a team to ensure your child feels safe and happy at school. We will be updating you on different events via Seesaw, X (Twitter) and the Newsletter. If you need new login details for Seesaw please let your child's class teacher know. If you have any concerns please let us know via Seesaw.
On Friday's the children will complete a Maths Club challenge and some children will complete a spelling test depending on their phonics group.New spellings will be sent out via Seesaw on a Friday and class teachers will inform you of when your child has moved up a Maths Club. Maths Clubs can be found here https://www.templars.coventry.sch.uk/homework-1/
Children should read at least four times a week at home with an adult (or older sibling) and reading books and diaries should be in school every day. It is important that your child reads each book at least twice so that they build their fluency.
